Explorer RV Reception Systems Technical Information
Caravan Antennas are different to any household antenna. Why?
A caravan antenna has to work anywhere in Australia. Therefore it has to work on every channel VHF 6 thru to 12 and every channel UHF 29 thru to 69. That is a lot of different channels – in fact 46!
Vertical signals are used too which means the possible channels are doubled.
Now add to this technical nightmare the transmitter that sends the signal out. They can be daddy bear ones (big outputs of signal) mother bear ones with medium amounts of output or baby bear ones which barely send out enough signal to cover 5 kilometers.
Something not really understood is an antenna in a perfect situation would be designed and made for one channel only. This would give you the best performance but that is not practically. We would need 5 antennas on our home to cover the 5 basic broadcasters. 2 7 9 & 10 and SBS. So we compromise and make one antenna to cover the wanted 5 channels. With digitial each channel can then sub-divide into 3 or 5 programs.
Now caravan antennas has to be able to work on a total of 46 channels in both a horizontal and vertical plane. Not an easy thing to design and then have function. However, explorer have done this and understand the nature of signal due to their in depth knowledge of the subject and Caravan Antennas experience of almost 45 years.
